What Are You Doing?

There are times when we know what we should be doing but stay busy doing everything but what we actually should do. We stay busy all day getting things done but it’s not what we need to be doing. It’s the same when try to please God by going to church, reading His word and going through all the motions we think He wants us to do. However, we need to really dig deeper and be sure we are being obedient in all things rather than just what we feel like doing on the surface.

1 Samuel 15:22 “But Samuel replied, ‘What is more pleasing to the LORD: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams.’” (NLT)

Dear Lord, help us today to submit and be obedient to You today. We want to read Your word and seek Your will and be obedient to You. We don’t want to just go through the motions and do what we think good Christians should do. Help us today Lord to know Your will, obey You and follow Your plan for us. Help us today Lord to worship You through honoring Your name and being obedient to You in all things. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Make today a wonderful day! Make a difference!

Get Excited!

There are people who get excited about going to movies or sporting events. There are others who get excited about hanging out with their friends on the weekends and just relaxing. There are individuals who get excited about certain holidays or special times when family will all be together. We need to think about what we get excited about. We need to think about what we look forward to. We need to be sure what we get excited about is what God wants us to do and not the things of the world.

Colossians 3:2, 17 “Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.” (NLT)

Dear Lord, help us today to get excited about You. Help us today to get excited about Jesus who died on the cross to save us. Help us today to get excited about doing Your will and sharing Your word. We can still enjoy the things of the world and look forward to them, but help us to use those opportunities to get excited about You, to worship You and to share with others what You have done for us.

It All Adds Up

It all adds up. We may not understand the big picture in little things we do each day. We say a kind word to one person. We say no to that chocolate cake. We tuck away a $10 for a rainy day. We clean out one area of our house. We spend a few minutes with our family. These little things may not seem like much but it all adds up. This year, write down these little things. Then at the end of the year, you will see the difference you have made!

January 1, 2011 DO MORE

James 4:13-17 “Look here, you people who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.’ How do you know what will happen tomorrow? For your life is like the morning fog – it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. What you ought to say is, ‘If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.’ Otherwise you will be boasting about your own plans, and all such boasting is evil. Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.”

God has our plans already so it makes it easy for us. We just have to listen and look for what he wants us to do. If something is planted in your head to do and you just can’t shake it, there is a reason for that. God is talking to you and giving you opportunities to do something for him. There are many instances in the Bible and in our lives where people ran from what they ought to have done. God doesn’t want us to run. He wants us to do what he asks and do more.

This year as you think about your goals and what you want to accomplish, don’t leave God out. He should be included in every part of your goals. We all have the same ending in life where we have to face him and be accountable for our actions. Think about what you need to do this year so that when you see God you will hear, “well done, my good and faithful servant.”

Happy New Year!

December 23, 2010 LINGER LONGER TO SHOW LOVE

John 13:34-35 “So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”

Some things are not what they appear to be on the surface. At first glance, what may appear to be a wreck on the side of the road off in the distance could be a roadblock. At first glance, what may appear to be someone who is laughing on the outside, may be someone who is crying on the inside. At first glance, what may appear to be an angry person, may be a person in need. We need to look beyond the surface so we can plainly see what the reality is. We can’t be moving so fast that we fail to see the opportunities around us.

If appear to be too busy on the surface, it may seem like we do not care. We need to take time for others. The world is busy and things need to be done; however, we should pick out what is important and urgent and get those things done first. If it is a friend or a stranger in need, we may want to rethink what we are doing and shift our priorities to help them. We need to linger longer so that we can be more aware of what others need and determine how we can help. We need to show our love.
