Halftime

I really enjoyed reading the book “Half Time” by Bob Buford. It is not so much about halftime in football but more about halftime in life. I read it over ten years ago during the halftime of my life. The idea behind the book is that we spend the first half of our lives learning and gaining experiences. Then, the last half of our lives should be more about serving through ministry and missions.

We don’t always know how much time we have left. We normally we live 80 or 90 years so halftime would be around 40 to 45 years old (also known as the mid-life crisis time of life). As I have begun to pass the age of 60, I am approaching more of my fourth quarter of life. Now I can hold up four fingers and get excited knowing I need to intentionally live so I can achieve the final goals of my life before I leave this earth. I will choose, like Paul did, to win the race.

It is now halftime for 2022. Plans for the 3rd and 4th quarters should be underway. Our coach should be God who has our eternal purpose in mind. He can lead us, guide us, and teach us along the way. The second half of our 2022 can be more about serving and giving. We don’t have to learn any more. We should, instead, apply what we have learned through serving and giving to others.

CHALLENGE: Before going to bed each night, evaluate your day. Did you serve and give? Then write down one thing you can do tomorrow to make a difference.

And, have a great Fourth of July! God Bless America!
